Overview
Exforge HCT 5/160/12.5mg Tablets from Novartis combine three blood-pressure medicines in one tablet. Amlodipine 5mg (a calcium-channel blocker), valsartan 160mg (an angiotensin-receptor blocker) and hydrochlorothiazide 12.5mg (a diuretic). The three work in complementary ways: widening the arteries, relaxing blood vessels and clearing excess salt and water. This triple combination is used when blood pressure needs more than one or two medicines to reach target, simplifying treatment into a single daily tablet. A doctor-prescribed option helping people with harder-to-control hypertension achieve good control.
Actives: Amlodipine 5mg (as besilate), Valsartan 160mg and Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5mg per tablet.
Directions for Use
This is a prescription medicine, usually prescribed once your doctor has established the right doses of each ingredient. Take only as directed. Usually one tablet once daily, ideally in the morning (the diuretic can increase urination), with or without food, swallowed with water at the same time each day. Keep taking it even when you feel well, and do not stop without advice. Attend regular blood-pressure, kidney and electrolyte checks.
Do not use in pregnancy. Tell your doctor at once if you become or plan to become pregnant. May cause dizziness or ankle swelling, especially at first or on standing. Rise slowly. The diuretic can affect potassium, sodium, blood sugar and uric acid (caution with gout and diabetes), while valsartan can raise potassium; tell your doctor about kidney problems and dehydration. Avoid grapefruit. Store below 30°C. This product information is for general guidance only and does not replace professional medical advice. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider before starting any new medication or supplement. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
