Proximexa 500 mg tablets are Cefuroxime tablets which are film-coated and contain 500 mg of Cefuroxime Axetil. Cefuroxime axetil is a semi-synthetic, broad-spectrum cephalosporin antibiotic for oral administration. Cefuroxime Axetil tablets are indicated for the treatment of patients with mild to moderate infections caused by susceptible strains of the designated microorganisms in the conditions such as Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes, Acute Bacterial Otitis Media, Acute Bacterial Maxillary Sinusitis, Acute Bacterial Exacerbations of Chronic Bronchitis and Secondary Bacterial Infections of Acute Bronchitis, Uncomplicated Skin and Skin-Structure Infections, Uncomplicated Urinary Tract Infections, Uncomplicated Gonorrhea, Early Lyme Disease (erythema migrans).
The usual course of therapy is Proximexa 500 mg twice a day for 7 to 10 days taken after food for optimum absorption. The dosage may vary for different conditions. Always consult your doctor before taking this medication.
Proximexa is contraindicated in Patients with known hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics or any other ingredients in it. It may also reduce the effectiveness of the contraceptive pill.
