HIV 1 + 2 Cassette (Whole Blood) is a rapid chromatrographic immunoassay for the qualitative detection of antibody to Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) Type 1 and/or Type 2, in whole blood, serum or plasma. Clean the area to be lanced with the alcohol prep pad. Squeeze the fingertip and pierce it with the sterile lancet. Wipe away the first drop of blood with sterile gauze or cotton. Using a disposable pipette, collect blood fromt he puncture site. The whole blood may be used for testing immedicately or may be stored at 2 – 8 0C for two days. Specimens that have been refrigerated must be equilibrated to room temperature before testing.
Do not open the pouch until ready to perform the test. Remove the test device from its protective pouch. Lay it on a flat, clean and dry surface. Use the pipette to draw and slowly add 1 drop of whold blood to the sample well. Unscrew and remove the top of the buffer bottle and hold it vertically, then add 2 drops of buffer to the sample well. Read the results between 15-20 minuites. DO NOT READ THE RESULTS AFTER 20 MINUTES POSITIVE; One line or two lines appear in the test region plus the control line appears within the result window, no matter which line appears first, indicating a positive result for HIV-1 and /or HIV-2 respectively. It is possible for positive test results to appear in one patient, simultaneously.
