Overview

Advantec 16/12.5mg is a once-daily blood pressure tablet combining candesartan (an angiotensin receptor blocker) with hydrochlorothiazide, a water tablet (diuretic). Together they relax and widen blood vessels and remove excess fluid, lowering high blood pressure (hypertension). It is prescribed when one medicine alone has not controlled blood pressure well enough. Keeping blood pressure controlled helps protect against stroke, heart attack and kidney damage. Supplied as a 28-tablet four-week pack.

Active ingredients: Candesartan cilexetil 16mg, Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5mg per tablet.

Directions for Use

This medicine requires a prescription. Use only as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Take one tablet once daily, with or without food, ideally at the same time each day. Swallow whole with water. As it contains a diuretic, take it in the morning to avoid passing urine at night. Keep taking it even if you feel well. Do not stop suddenly without advice.

Not for use in pregnancy or breastfeeding, or in severe kidney or liver disease. Tell your doctor if you have gout, diabetes or low potassium. May cause dizziness, especially when standing up. Rise slowly. Avoid potassium supplements and salt substitutes unless advised. Your doctor may check kidney function and electrolytes periodically. Store below 30°C.
