Overview

Amlong 5mg Tablets contain amlodipine, a calcium channel blocker used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and to prevent the chest pain of angina. Amlodipine relaxes and widens the blood vessels so that blood flows more easily, lowering blood pressure and easing the heart's workload. Controlling blood pressure reduces the long-term risk of stroke, heart attack and kidney damage. The 5mg strength is a common starting dose. Amlong is taken once daily by adults managing high blood pressure or angina as part of a long-term plan that also includes a healthy lifestyle.

Active ingredient: Amlodipine (as besylate) 5 mg per tablet.

Directions for Use

This medicine requires a prescription. Use only as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Take one tablet once a day, at about the same time each day, with or without food. Swallow it whole with water. Continue taking it even when you feel well, as high blood pressure often causes no symptoms; do not stop suddenly without advice. Keep up regular blood pressure checks, and your doctor may adjust the dose over time.

It may cause ankle swelling, flushing, headache or dizziness, especially at first; rise slowly from sitting or lying to avoid light-headedness. Avoid grapefruit and grapefruit juice, which can increase the medicine's effect. Tell your doctor if you have heart or liver problems, or very low blood pressure, and mention all other medicines, including other blood pressure treatments.
