Overview

Esofag 40mg Tablets (30 pack) contain esomeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that reduces the amount of acid your stomach produces. The 40mg strength is used for more troublesome acid reflux and heartburn (GORD), to heal stomach and duodenal ulcers and reflux-related inflammation of the food pipe, and as part of treatment for H. pylori infection. By cutting stomach acid, it relieves burning heartburn and acid regurgitation and allows irritated tissue to heal. A doctor-prescribed acid-reducing medicine helping people manage stubborn reflux and ulcers. Confirm the active on the pack.

Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor. Usually one 40mg tablet once daily, swallowed whole with water, ideally about 30-60 minutes before a meal (often breakfast). Do not crush or chew it. Take it for the full course your doctor advises; do not stop early just because symptoms settle. If symptoms persist or return after the course, see your doctor.

See a doctor promptly if you have difficulty or pain swallowing, unintended weight loss, black stools, vomiting blood, or persistent vomiting, as these need assessment. Long-term use is linked to low magnesium or vitamin B12 and a small effect on bone strength. Use the lowest effective course. Tell your doctor about liver problems and other medicines (such as clopidogrel, certain HIV or antifungal medicines). Use in pregnancy or breastfeeding only on advice. Store below 30°C.
