Overview
Foseal 800mg Tablets (60 pack) contain sevelamer, a calcium-free phosphate binder from Emcure prescribed for chronic kidney disease patients, especially those on dialysis, whose kidneys can no longer clear phosphate from the blood. Taken with meals, sevelamer binds dietary phosphate in the gut so it passes out undigested. Protecting bones and blood vessels from the calcification and damage that high phosphate causes. Being calcium-free, it controls phosphate without adding to calcium load, an important advantage for long-term kidney patients .
Sevelamer 800mg per film-coated tablet.
Directions for Use
This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your kidney specialist. The dose is individualised to your blood phosphate level, commonly one to two 800mg tablets three times daily with meals. Swallow tablets whole with water during or immediately after eating; sevelamer only works in the presence of food. Take other medicines at least 1 hour before or 3 hours after Foseal. Follow your renal diet and attend blood monitoring.
Do not use with bowel obstruction or very low blood phosphate. Caution after major bowel surgery or with swallowing and gut motility problems. Common effects: nausea, constipation, bloating. Sevelamer can lower absorption of fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K) and folic acid. Levels may be monitored, and reduces absorption of several medicines including ciprofloxacin and thyroid hormone; separate doses as advised. Use in pregnancy only if clearly needed. Store below 30°C.
