Overview
Montana 5mg (montelukast) is a prescription medicine used to prevent and manage asthma and to relieve symptoms of allergic rhinitis (such as a runny, itchy or blocked nose). It belongs to a group called leukotriene receptor antagonists, which reduce the airway inflammation and narrowing that cause asthma symptoms, helping to prevent wheezing, coughing and breathlessness. The 5mg chewable strength is typically used for children, helping young patients control asthma and allergy symptoms when taken regularly.
Directions for Use
This is a prescription medicine. Give only as directed by your doctor. Montana 5mg is usually taken once daily in the evening; the chewable tablet should be chewed before swallowing. Use it regularly for prevention, not just when symptoms occur. It is not a reliever for sudden asthma attacks. A fast-acting inhaler should still be available.
This is a prescription medicine for children (5mg strength). Follow age-appropriate dosing. Tell your doctor if your child experiences mood or behaviour changes (such as sleep problems, agitation, anxiety or low mood), as montelukast can rarely cause these. Report any such changes. Not for relief of a sudden asthma attack. Tell your doctor about other medicines. Store in a cool, dry place. This product information is for general guidance only and does not replace professional medical advice. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider before starting any new medication or supplement. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
