Avodart 0.5mg Capsules (30 pack) from GSK contain dutasteride, a medicine for benign prostate enlargement (benign prostatic hyperplasia, BPH) in men. Dutasteride blocks the hormone conversion that drives the prostate to grow, gradually shrinking the enlarged gland over months. This eases bothersome urinary symptoms. A weak stream, difficulty starting, and frequent or night-time urination, and lowers the risk of sudden inability to pass urine and the need for prostate surgery. A trusted, doctor-prescribed long-term treatment for men with an enlarged prostate.

Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor. Usually one capsule once daily, at the same time each day, with or without food. Swallow the capsule whole; do not chew or open it, as the contents can irritate the mouth and throat. Be patient. It can take three to six months to feel the full benefit. Keep taking it long term as advised, and attend regular prostate reviews.

Women who are or may become pregnant must not handle leaking capsules, as dutasteride can harm a male baby; men should not donate blood during treatment or for six months after stopping. May reduce libido, cause erection difficulty or breast tenderness/enlargement. Report breast changes. It lowers PSA blood levels, so tell any doctor doing a prostate-cancer check.
