Fosamax 70mg Once-Weekly Tablets (4 pack) from MSD (Organon) contain alendronate, a bisphosphonate that treats osteoporosis by slowing the bone-thinning process and allowing bone density to rebuild. Taken just once a week, Fosamax significantly reduces the risk of spine and hip fractures in postmenopausal women and in men with osteoporosis. Protecting independence in later life. For women past menopause, when bone loss accelerates sharply, this is one of the most established and studied treatments for keeping bones strong.

Alendronic acid (as alendronate sodium) 70mg per tablet.

Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor. One 70mg tablet once weekly, on the same morning each week. Take it first thing on an empty stomach with a full glass of plain water only, at least 30 minutes before any food, drink or other medicine. Stay fully upright (sitting or standing) for at least 30 minutes after the dose and until after your first food. Never take it at bedtime.

Do not use with swallowing difficulties, oesophageal disorders, inability to stay upright for 30 minutes, low blood calcium or severe kidney impairment. Stop and seek care for chest pain, new heartburn or painful swallowing. Oesophageal irritation can be serious. Tell your dentist you take alendronate before extractions (rare jaw-bone complications); report unexplained thigh or groin pain. Ensure adequate calcium and vitamin D intake.
