Overview

Betoptic 0.5% Eye Drops (5ml) from Alcon contain betaxolol, a beta-blocker eye drop used to lower raised pressure inside the eye. It is prescribed for glaucoma (chiefly open-angle glaucoma) and ocular hypertension, conditions where high eye pressure can gradually damage the optic nerve and threaten sight. Betaxolol reduces the amount of fluid the eye produces, easing the pressure and helping protect long-term vision. Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Use only as directed by your doctor. Usually one drop into the affected eye(s) twice daily. Shake gently, wash your hands, tilt your head back, pull down the lower lid and instil one drop without touching the dropper to the eye. Close the eye and press the inner corner for a minute or two to limit absorption. If using other eye drops, separate them by at least five minutes. Keep using it daily, as glaucoma usually has no symptoms.

Do not stop suddenly without advice, as eye pressure can rise. Although an eye drop, some medicine can be absorbed. Tell your doctor about asthma or other breathing problems, slow heart rate, heart failure or diabetes. Vision may blur briefly after instilling. Wait before driving. Remove contact lenses before use and wait 15 minutes before reinserting. Discard 28 days after opening; do not share. Use in pregnancy or breastfeeding only on medical advice.
