Overview

Pentasa 1g Enema (7 pack) delivers mesalazine (5-ASA) directly to the lower bowel as a liquid enema. Treating and maintaining remission in ulcerative colitis and proctitis affecting the rectum and left side of the colon. Applied where the inflammation is, the enema delivers anti-inflammatory action straight to the bowel lining, calming flares of bloody diarrhoea, urgency and cramping.

Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Use one enema at bedtime (or as prescribed), after emptying the bowel if possible. Shake well, lie on your left side, gently insert the nozzle and slowly squeeze the contents in, then stay lying down to help retain it overnight for maximum effect. Use for the course prescribed, including for maintenance. Confirm the regimen with your doctor.

Report any worsening of colitis symptoms (increased bloody diarrhoea, cramping, fever). Rarely mesalazine can worsen symptoms. Report unexplained bleeding, bruising, fever or sore throat (blood effects). Kidney function is monitored periodically; tell your doctor about kidney problems and any salicylate (aspirin) allergy. Drink plenty of fluids. Use in pregnancy on medical advice. Persistent or severe flares need medical review.
