Questran Light 4g Sachets (50 pack) contain colestyramine (cholestyramine), a bile-acid binder used to lower cholesterol and, importantly, to relieve the diarrhoea and itching caused by excess bile acids. As in bile-acid malabsorption, after gallbladder surgery, or in certain liver conditions. Colestyramine binds bile acids in the gut so they are removed rather than causing symptoms.

Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Mix each sachet thoroughly with plenty of water or another liquid (never take dry) and drink, at the times your doctor prescribes. CRUCIALLY, take all your OTHER medicines at least 1 hour before or 4-6 hours after colestyramine, as it binds and blocks the absorption of many drugs. Introduce gradually to reduce bloating.

Colestyramine binds many medicines and fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K). Separate all other medicines by the interval above and discuss vitamin supplementation for long-term use. May cause constipation, bloating and wind, especially at first. Increase fluid and fibre. Tell your doctor about complete bowel or bile-duct obstruction (not suitable), and any bleeding tendency.
