Klacid 125mg/5ml Suspension (50ml) is Abbott's original clarithromycin antibiotic in a pleasant paediatric suspension. Prescribed for children's chest infections, throat and tonsil infections, middle-ear infections and some skin infections, clarithromycin is a macrolide. A valuable choice for children allergic to penicillin. The banana-flavoured suspension makes the course easier to complete, and the trusted Klacid brand assures consistent quality for parents nursing a sick child through a bacterial infection.

Clarithromycin 125mg per 5ml granules for oral suspension. Contains sucrose.

Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Use only as directed by a doctor. Dosing is by the child's weight, typically 7.5mg/kg twice daily for 5-7 days. Shake the bottle well and measure with the syringe or spoon provided. May be given with or without food; food helps if the tummy is upset. Complete the full course even when the child improves. Store the mixed suspension as directed and discard after 14 days.

Do not use with known macrolide allergy, or alongside certain medicines. Clarithromycin interacts with many drugs (statins, some antihistamines, colchicine, theophylline and others); tell the doctor everything the child takes. Diarrhoea, tummy upset and taste changes are common and usually mild. Caution with liver or kidney problems and heart rhythm disorders. See the doctor if there is no improvement after 3 days, or for rash or persistent watery diarrhoea.
