Overview

Zithromax Suspension 200mg/5ml (30ml) is Pfizer's original azithromycin antibiotic in a banana-cherry flavoured liquid for children. Azithromycin treats chest infections and pneumonia, throat and tonsil infections, ear infections and some skin and typhoid infections. With the major advantage of short, simple courses: typically once daily for just 3-5 days. The medicine concentrates in infected tissues and keeps working after the course ends, making it easier for parents to complete a child's treatment properly.

Azithromycin (as dihydrate) 200mg per 5ml powder for oral suspension. Contains sucrose.

Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Use only as directed by your doctor. Typically once daily for 3 days (or 5 days), dosed by the child's weight (commonly 10mg/kg once daily). Shake the bottle well and measure with the syringe or spoon provided. Give at the same time each day, with or without food. Complete the full course. Discard remaining suspension after the period stated on the label.

Do not use if allergic to azithromycin or other macrolides (erythromycin, clarithromycin). Tell the doctor about liver problems, heart rhythm disorders (QT prolongation) or medicines like antacids. Separate antacids by 2 hours. Diarrhoea, stomach pain and rash can occur; stop and seek care for severe rash, watery persistent diarrhoea or yellowing of the eyes. Misuse of antibiotics drives resistance. Use only when prescribed. Store the dry powder below 30°C; reconstituted suspension as labelled.
