Overview
Ventolin Evohaler is a fast-acting reliever inhaler containing salbutamol, used to ease the symptoms of asthma and other conditions that narrow the airways. When you feel breathless, wheezy, tight-chested or are having an asthma attack, salbutamol quickly relaxes the muscles around the airways to open them up and make breathing easier, usually within minutes. It can also be used before exercise to prevent exercise-induced symptoms. Ventolin is an essential rescue inhaler for people of all ages with asthma, helping them manage flare-ups and breathe more comfortably under their doctor's asthma plan.
Active ingredient: Salbutamol (as sulphate) 100 mcg per actuation (metered dose). Propellant inhaler, 200 doses.
Directions for Use
This medicine requires a prescription. Use only as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Shake the inhaler before each use. For sudden symptoms, take 1-2 puffs as needed; for exercise, use shortly before activity. Breathe out gently, then press the canister as you start to breathe in slowly and deeply, hold your breath for about 10 seconds, and wait before a second puff. Using a spacer can help. If you need your reliever very often (e.g. more than 3 times a week) or it is not helping, contact your doctor. Your asthma control may need review.
Overuse can signal worsening asthma: seek medical advice if your usual dose gives less relief, lasts a shorter time, or you are using the inhaler more frequently. Get urgent help if breathing does not improve after using your reliever during an attack. Tell your doctor if you have heart problems, an overactive thyroid, diabetes or are on other inhalers, as salbutamol may cause a faster heartbeat, tremor or, rarely, low potassium. Tell your doctor if pregnant or breastfeeding. Store below 30C, away from heat and direct sun; do not puncture or burn even when empty.
