Melanocyl 10mg Tablets (200 pack) contain methoxsalen (8-MOP), a psoralen used together with controlled ultraviolet A light (PUVA therapy) to treat severe skin conditions such as extensive psoriasis and vitiligo. Methoxsalen makes the skin temporarily sensitive to UVA so that, under careful specialist supervision, light treatment can clear or repigment affected skin. This medicine is administered under specialist medical supervision only.

Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Dosage is determined by your prescribing doctor based on your individual needs. Do not adjust your dose without medical supervision. Take exactly as prescribed, a set time before each scheduled UVA light treatment, usually with food or milk to reduce nausea. The timing relative to light exposure is critical and set by your dermatology team. PUVA is given in a controlled clinical setting. Never take it without the corresponding supervised light treatment or alter the timing. This medicine is administered under specialist medical supervision only.

After each dose you are highly sensitive to sunlight. Wear UVA-protective wraparound sunglasses for the period your team specifies (to protect against cataracts) and protect your skin from sun exposure for the rest of the treatment day to avoid severe burns. Eyes and skin are monitored over long-term PUVA, which carries a long-term skin-cancer risk. Tell your team about all medicines, liver problems, and any light-sensitive conditions.
