Overview

Scarin Cream contains permethrin 5%, the first-line treatment for scabies. The intensely itchy skin infestation caused by tiny burrowing mites, and is also used for certain other parasitic skin conditions. Applied over the body, permethrin kills the mites and their eggs, clearing the infestation and, over the following weeks, the maddening itch.

Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Apply a thin layer over the WHOLE body from the neck down (including between fingers and toes, under nails, the groin and soles, and the scalp and face in infants and the elderly as directed), leave on for the time stated (usually 8-12 hours, often overnight), then wash off. A second application after 7 days is usually advised. Treat all household and close contacts at the same time, even without symptoms.

Treat all close contacts simultaneously and wash bedding, towels and worn clothing in hot water (or seal in a bag for several days) to prevent reinfestation. Itching can continue for 2-4 weeks after successful treatment. This does not mean failure; your doctor may advise soothing treatment. Avoid contact with the eyes, mouth and broken skin. Seek advice for use in infants, pregnancy or breastfeeding. See a doctor if the rash persists or worsens after treatment.
