Overview

Debridace Ointment 15g is an enzymatic wound-debriding ointment from Virchow Biotech combining papain (a protein-digesting enzyme) with urea. Applied to sloughy or necrotic wounds. Pressure sores, diabetic foot ulcers, leg ulcers, burns and infected surgical wounds. It painlessly digests dead tissue while leaving healthy tissue untouched, and thins pus so the wound can drain and heal. Painless, bloodless debridement supports faster healing in chronic wounds, making Debridace a valuable dressing-room companion for wound care in clinics and home nursing.

Per gram: papain 521,700 units, urea 100mg, in an emulsified wax ointment base.

Directions for Use

This is a prescription wound-care medicine. Use under the direction of a doctor or wound-care nurse. Cleanse the wound with saline or a mild wound cleanser (do not use hydrogen peroxide. It inactivates papain), pat dry, apply a layer of ointment directly to the lesion and cover with an appropriate dressing. Reapply once or twice daily with each dressing change, as advised.

For external use on wounds only. Do not use with papaya/papain allergy. Mild transient burning or irritation can occur; stop if significant rash develops. Avoid contact with eyes and healthy surrounding skin where practical. Hydrogen peroxide and heavy-metal antiseptics (e.g. silver, iodine on the same area) can inactivate the enzyme. Follow your clinician's dressing plan. Diabetic and poorly healing wounds need regular professional review. Store below 25°C.
