Overview
Hypovase 1mg (prazosin) is a prescription medicine belonging to the alpha-blocker group. It is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and to relieve the urinary symptoms of an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia), and is sometimes used for other conditions such as Raynaud's. Prazosin works by relaxing blood vessels and the muscle around the bladder neck and prostate, lowering blood pressure and improving urine flow. It is used by adults under a doctor's guidance.
Directions for Use
This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor. Prazosin is started at a low dose, often taken at bedtime, because the first dose can cause a sudden drop in blood pressure. Your doctor will increase the dose gradually. Swallow with water and take it regularly at the same times. Do not stop without medical advice.
This is a prescription medicine. The first dose (or a dose increase) can cause sudden dizziness, light-headedness or fainting. Take it when you can sit or lie down, and rise slowly from sitting or lying, especially at first. Tell your doctor if you have heart or kidney problems, or are due to have cataract surgery (it can affect the procedure). May cause dizziness, drowsiness, headache or a stuffy nose. Use with caution with other blood pressure medicines and avoid excess alcohol. Use in pregnancy or breastfeeding only on advice. Store in a cool, dry place.
