Overview

Minirin 0.2mg Tablets (30 pack) contain desmopressin, a synthetic form of the body's natural water-conserving hormone vasopressin. It is prescribed for central diabetes insipidus (excessive thirst and urination from hormone deficiency), bedwetting (nocturnal enuresis) in children over 5 when other measures fail, and waking at night to pass urine (nocturia) in adults. By concentrating the urine, Minirin restores more normal fluid balance and drier nights. From Ferring Pharmaceuticals, it is a specialist medicine requiring careful fluid management under medical supervision.

Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor. The dose is individually adjusted to your response. Tablets are usually taken at bedtime for bedwetting or nocturia, or in divided doses for diabetes insipidus. Crucially, restrict fluid intake from 1 hour before until 8 hours after each dose, exactly as your doctor instructs. Do not change your dose without medical review.

The key risk is water overload and low blood sodium (hyponatraemia). Which can cause headache, nausea, confusion and seizures. Strictly follow fluid restriction, and pause the medicine during vomiting, diarrhoea or fever (rehydration takes priority). Not suitable for habitual or psychogenic excessive drinking, uncontrolled hypertension or significant heart or kidney disease. Caution in the elderly. Sodium monitoring is advised. Tell your doctor about diuretics, antidepressants and NSAIDs. Store below 25°C in original packaging.
