May cause headache, flushing, ankle swelling and dizziness, especially at first. Report persistent swelling or fainting. Rise slowly from sitting or lying. Avoid grapefruit juice, which raises nifedipine levels. Use caution in significant aortic stenosis and unstable angina. Tell your doctor about all other blood pressure and heart medicines. Immediate-release nifedipine should not be used to rapidly lower blood pressure. Use only the prescribed slow-release form.
