Overview

Truvada Tablets (30 pack) combine two antiretroviral medicines. Tenofovir disoproxil 300mg and emtricitabine 200mg. In one daily tablet. Truvada is used as part of combination therapy to treat HIV infection, helping to suppress the virus, protect the immune system and keep people well. It is also used for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). Taken by HIV-negative people at higher risk to greatly reduce the chance of acquiring HIV. Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor. One tablet once daily, at about the same time each day, swallowed whole with water, with or without food. For both HIV treatment and PrEP, taking it every day exactly as prescribed is essential for it to work. For HIV treatment it must be used together with the other antiretrovirals your doctor prescribes. Never on its own. Attend all appointments for HIV, kidney and bone monitoring.

For PrEP, you must be confirmed HIV-negative before starting and tested regularly, as using it alone with undiagnosed HIV can cause drug resistance. PrEP does not protect against other sexually transmitted infections. Continue to use condoms. Tell your doctor about kidney or bone problems and hepatitis B (stopping the medicine can flare hepatitis B). Report new bone or kidney symptoms.
