Overview
Seretide Accuhaler 50/250 is a preventer inhaler combining salmeterol, a long-acting airway opener, with fluticasone propionate, an anti-inflammatory corticosteroid. Taken regularly, it helps control asthma (and certain cases of COPD) by keeping the airways open and reducing the underlying inflammation, which lessens everyday symptoms such as wheezing and breathlessness and lowers the risk of attacks. The 50/250 strength is a middle-dose option suited to ongoing maintenance. Seretide is a daily maintenance treatment for adults under a doctor's plan, and is not used to relieve a sudden asthma attack.
Active ingredients per inhalation: Salmeterol (as xinafoate) 50 mcg and Fluticasone propionate 250 mcg. 60 doses.
Directions for Use
This medicine requires a prescription. Use only as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. The usual dose is one inhalation twice a day (morning and evening), taken regularly even when you feel well. Slide the lever to load a dose, breathe out gently away from the device, then breathe in steadily and deeply through the mouthpiece and hold your breath for about 10 seconds. Rinse your mouth with water afterwards to help prevent thrush and hoarseness. Do not use it for a sudden asthma attack. Use your reliever inhaler instead.
This is a preventer, not a reliever: always carry your fast-acting reliever, and seek urgent help if you need it more than usual or symptoms worsen. Do not stop treatment suddenly without advice. Rinsing the mouth after use reduces the risk of oral thrush and hoarseness. Tell your doctor if you have a chest infection, tuberculosis, diabetes, an overactive thyroid or heart problems. Tell your doctor about other medicines, and if pregnant or breastfeeding. Store below 30C in a dry place.
