Overview

Venofer 100mg/5ml (single ampoule) is an intravenous iron sucrose preparation from Vifor Pharma, used to treat iron deficiency and iron-deficiency anaemia when oral iron is ineffective, not tolerated, or when iron must be replaced quickly. Including in chronic kidney disease, heavy menstrual bleeding, pregnancy-related anaemia (second and third trimester) and before surgery. Given by slow intravenous injection or infusion in a clinical setting, Venofer restores iron stores directly, supporting haemoglobin recovery, energy and wellbeing. This medicine is administered under specialist medical supervision only.

Iron (as iron sucrose) 100mg per 5ml ampoule, equivalent to 20mg/ml, for intravenous use.

Directions for Use

This medicine is administered under specialist medical supervision only. It is given by slow intravenous injection or infusion by a trained healthcare professional, with the dose calculated from your weight, haemoglobin and iron status. It is not for self-administration or intramuscular use. Facilities for managing allergic reactions must be available during administration, and you will be observed afterwards.

Risk of hypersensitivity reactions, rarely severe. Administration requires trained staff and resuscitation facilities, with monitoring during and after each dose. Not for use in the first trimester of pregnancy, iron overload, or anaemia not caused by iron deficiency. Tell your clinician about asthma, eczema, other allergies, liver disease or previous reactions to injectable iron. Side effects can include taste changes, headache, nausea, low blood pressure and injection-site reactions. Store below 25°C; do not freeze.
