Allopurinol 100mg Tablets (30 pack) are the long-term preventive treatment for gout and high uric acid. Lowering the uric acid that crystallises into agonising gout attacks and damages joints and kidneys. Allopurinol reduces the body's production of uric acid, and taken consistently it gradually dissolves the urate burden until attacks become rarer and stop.

Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Take as prescribed, usually once daily after food, with plenty of water. Treatment starts low and is increased gradually under uric-acid monitoring. Early on, attacks can temporarily increase as urate mobilises. Do not stop; your doctor may add flare prevention. Never start allopurinol during an acute attack unless directed, and never stop it during a flare once established.

Stop and seek urgent medical attention at the FIRST sign of any skin rash. Rarely allopurinol causes severe, life-threatening skin reactions, more likely early in treatment. Drink plenty of fluids and limit alcohol and purine-rich foods for best results. Tell your doctor about kidney problems (doses are reduced) and all medicines. Allopurinol interacts importantly with azathioprine, mercaptopurine and warfarin. Report fever, swollen glands or yellowing of the skin.
