Overview
Diosmolyte Sachets are a dual-action treatment for diarrhoea that both firms the stools and replaces the fluids and salts lost during a bout of diarrhoea. Each sachet combines diosmectite - a natural clay that lines and protects the gut wall and binds excess water and toxins - with oral rehydration salts (glucose plus sodium, potassium and citrate) to correct dehydration. This makes it useful for acute diarrhoea and gastroenteritis in children and adults, tackling both the loose stools and the risk of dehydration in one drink. A practical option for Kenyan families managing a stomach upset.
Each sachet contains diosmectite (≈ 3 g) with oral rehydration salts: glucose (dextrose), sodium chloride, potassium chloride and citrate salts. Exact quantities as stated on the pack.
Directions for Use
Dissolve the contents of one sachet in a glass (about 100-200 ml) of clean drinking water and stir until evenly mixed; drink soon after preparing. A common regimen is up to 6 sachets a day for adults and up to 4 a day for children over 2 years during the first few days, then reduced until diarrhoea stops - but follow the pack or your doctor's directions. Keep drinking fluids throughout. Take other medicines separated by 1-2 hours, as diosmectite can affect their absorption.
Not for children under 2 years except on medical advice. Diarrhoea in infants, or diarrhoea with high fever, blood in the stool, severe dehydration or vomiting that prevents drinking, needs prompt medical attention. Diosmectite can reduce the absorption of other medicines, so space them apart. Contains glucose and sodium - use with care in diabetes or on a salt-restricted diet. If diarrhoea lasts more than 2 days, see a doctor. Store in a dry place below 30°C. This product information is for general guidance only and does not replace professional medical advice. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider before starting any new medication or supplement. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
