Overview
Lydia DMPA IM Injection is an injectable contraceptive containing depot medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA), giving highly effective pregnancy prevention with one intramuscular injection every three months. The progestogen mainly works by stopping ovulation, offering reliable, discreet, long-acting contraception that doesn't depend on remembering a daily pill. This medicine is administered under specialist medical supervision only.
Directions for Use
This is a prescription medicine. Dosage is determined by your prescribing doctor based on your individual needs. Do not adjust your dose without medical supervision. Administered by a healthcare professional as an intramuscular injection, repeated every 12-13 weeks for continuous protection. The first injection is timed (usually within the first days of your period) so it works straight away; otherwise backup contraception is needed for the first 7 days. Attend your repeat appointments on time. A late injection risks pregnancy. This medicine is given under medical supervision.
Periods often change. Becoming irregular, lighter or stopping altogether, which is common and usually harmless; irregular bleeding tends to settle. Return of fertility can be delayed for several months to a year after stopping, so it may not suit you if you want to conceive soon. Long-term use may modestly reduce bone density (usually recovering after stopping). Discuss with your doctor if relevant. It does not protect against HIV or other sexually transmitted infections. Use condoms for that protection. Tell your doctor about clot history, liver disease, unexplained vaginal bleeding or breast cancer history. Report severe or persistent symptoms.
