Overview

Montel Tablets (30 pack) contain montelukast, a leukotriene receptor antagonist used to help prevent and control asthma symptoms long term, and to relieve allergic rhinitis symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose and nasal congestion. Taken once daily, montelukast blocks leukotrienes. Chemicals released in the airways during allergic reactions. Reducing airway inflammation, tightness and night-time symptoms. It is also helpful for exercise-induced asthma symptoms. Montel offers people with asthma or persistent allergies a convenient once-a-day tablet to use alongside, not instead of, their reliever inhaler.

Montelukast (as montelukast sodium). Strength as stated on product packaging (commonly 10mg for adults).

Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. The usual adult dose is one tablet once daily in the evening; children's doses use lower-strength formulations. Swallow with water, with or without food. Take it every day, even when you feel well. Montelukast prevents symptoms rather than relieving sudden attacks. Always keep your reliever (e.g., salbutamol) inhaler for emergencies; Montel is NOT a rescue treatment.

Not for relief of an acute asthma attack. Use your reliever inhaler and seek urgent care if breathing worsens. Rarely, montelukast has been associated with mood or behaviour changes (agitation, sleep disturbance, depression). Report any such changes to your doctor promptly, especially in children. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Continue any prescribed inhaled steroids unless told otherwise. Confirm tablet strength on the packaging. Store below 30°C.
