Overview
Recormon 5000 IU (6 pre-filled syringes) from Roche contains epoetin beta, a man-made form of erythropoietin. The natural hormone that tells the bone marrow to make red blood cells. It is used to treat anaemia (a low red-blood-cell count), particularly the anaemia of chronic kidney disease and anaemia in some people having chemotherapy. By stimulating red-cell production, it raises haemoglobin, easing the tiredness, breathlessness and weakness of anaemia and reducing the need for blood transfusions. A specialist-prescribed, closely monitored treatment helping affected people manage long-term anaemia.
Active: Epoetin beta 5,000 IU per pre-filled syringe.
Directions for Use
This is a prescription medicine given as an injection under the skin or into a vein, under medical supervision. Use only as directed by your doctor. The dose is individualised and adjusted to your haemoglobin and blood tests. If you are trained to self-inject the pre-filled syringe, follow that training exactly, rotate injection sites, and never share syringes. Attend all blood tests and blood-pressure checks, and keep to any iron supplement your doctor prescribes (iron is needed for it to work).
Regular monitoring of haemoglobin and blood pressure is essential. Raising the red-cell count too fast or too high increases the risk of high blood pressure, blood clots and other problems. Tell your doctor about high blood pressure, a history of clots, fits or heart problems, and report severe headache, vision changes or calf swelling. Adequate iron stores are needed for it to work. Store in the fridge (do not freeze) and protect from light. Use in pregnancy or breastfeeding only on specialist advice. This product information is for general guidance only and does not replace professional medical advice. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider before starting any new medication or supplement. Keep out of reach of children; dispose of needles safely.
