Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor. Usually one tablet once daily, with or without food, swallowed with water at the same time each day. It is a preventer, not a painkiller, so keep taking it every day even when you have no gout pain. When first starting, your doctor may also give a short course of anti-inflammatory or colchicine cover, because attacks can briefly increase as uric acid falls.

Do not start febuxostat during an acute gout attack. Begin once it has settled, as advised. Gout flares are common in the first months; do not stop the medicine if one occurs. Tell your doctor about heart disease, liver or kidney problems. Stop and seek urgent care for any rash, fever or yellowing of the skin or eyes, which can rarely be serious. Attend regular uric acid and liver checks. Use in pregnancy or breastfeeding only on advice. Store below 30°C.
