Cadronate 150 mg is used to prevent and treat certain types of bone loss (osteoporosis). Osteoporosis causes bones to become thinner and break more easily. Your chance of developing osteoporosis increases after menopause, as you age, or if you take corticosteroid medications (such as prednisone) for long periods. This medication works by slowing bone loss to help maintain strong bones and reduce the risk of broken bones (fractures). Cadronate belongs to a class of medications called bisphosphonates. Therapeutic indications: Treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women at increased risk of fracture. A reduction in the risk of vertebral fractures has been demonstrated, efficacy on femoral neck fractures has not been established.
Posology; The recommended dose is one 150 mg film-coated tablet once a month. The tablet should preferably be taken on the same date each month. Method of administration: For oral use.• Tablets should be swallowed whole with a glass of water (180 to 240 ml) while the patient is sitting or standing in an upright position. Water with a high concentration of calcium should not be used. If there is a concern regarding potentially high levels of calcium in the tap water (hard water) , it is advised to use bottled water with a low mineral content.
Contraindications: - Hypersensitivity to ibandronic acid or to any of the excipients listed.- Hypocalcaemia.- Abnormalities of the oesophagus which delay oesophageal emptying such as stricture or achalasia.- Inability to stand or sit upright for at least 60 minutes.
