Overview

Aricept 5mg Tablets contain donepezil, a medicine used to help manage the symptoms of mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease, the most common form of dementia. Donepezil boosts the level of a brain chemical (acetylcholine) involved in memory and thinking, which can help maintain mental function and daily abilities for a time. While it does not cure dementia or stop its progression, it can help support memory, awareness and the ability to carry out everyday tasks. Aricept is prescribed for adults under a doctor's supervision as part of a wider care and support plan.

Active ingredient: Donepezil hydrochloride 5 mg per tablet.

Directions for Use

This medicine requires a prescription. Use only as directed by your doctor. Aricept is usually taken once a day in the evening, just before bedtime, swallowed whole with water, with or without food. Treatment normally starts at 5mg daily and may be increased after about a month if your doctor advises. Take it at the same time each day and continue as prescribed; do not change the dose or stop without medical advice. A carer can help ensure the dose is taken consistently.

Tell your doctor if you have heart rhythm problems, a slow heartbeat, fainting spells, asthma or lung disease, stomach ulcers, or difficulty passing urine, as donepezil may affect these. It may cause dizziness, nausea, diarrhoea, muscle cramps or sleep disturbances, especially at first. Mention all other medicines, as some interact. Tell the doctor before any surgery or anaesthesia. Donepezil is not generally used in women of child-bearing potential without advice. Store below 30C in a dry place.
