Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Use only as directed by the treating doctor. Paediatric doses are calculated by body weight and divided through the day. Tablets may be swallowed, halved or crushed and mixed with a spoonful of soft food, given with or after meals. Give at the same times every day and never stop suddenly. Withdrawal must be gradual under medical supervision.

IMPORTANT: valproate must not be used in girls and women of childbearing potential unless a specialist pregnancy prevention programme is in place. It causes serious birth defects. Avoid with liver disease; watch children for vomiting, unusual drowsiness or jaundice in the first months (rare liver toxicity) and report immediately. Interacts with aspirin, other antiepileptics and carbapenem antibiotics. Regular blood monitoring is required. Store below 30°C.
