Tegretol CR 400mg Tablets (30 pack) from Novartis contain carbamazepine in a controlled-release (CR) form that releases the medicine steadily through the day. Carbamazepine calms over-active electrical activity in the nerves and brain. It is used to prevent epileptic seizures, to relieve the severe facial nerve pain of trigeminal neuralgia, and to help stabilise mood in bipolar disorder. The controlled-release tablet gives smoother blood levels, which can mean fewer side effects and more even control. A long-established, doctor-prescribed treatment helping people manage epilepsy, nerve pain or mood stabilisation.

Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor. Usually twice daily, swallowed whole with water, with or after food. The dose is started low and increased gradually. Take it regularly at the same times each day, and do not stop suddenly. In epilepsy this can trigger seizures; your doctor will adjust the dose gradually if treatment changes. Attend the regular blood tests your doctor arranges.

Seek urgent care for any skin rash, especially with fever, blistering or mouth sores. Rare but serious skin reactions can occur (people of some Asian ancestry may be advised a blood test first). Tell your doctor promptly about sore throat, fever, bruising, yellowing of the skin, or unusual tiredness. May cause drowsiness, dizziness or double vision, especially at first. Avoid driving until stable, and avoid alcohol. It interacts with many medicines, including hormonal contraceptives (which may become less effective). Use in pregnancy or breastfeeding only on specialist advice. Store below 30°C, protected from moisture.
