Overview
Ascoril Expectorant is a combination cough syrup that helps relieve a chesty, productive cough with congestion, supplied here in the larger 200ml bottle for extended or family use. It combines bromhexine and guaifenesin, which thin and loosen thick mucus so it can be cleared more easily, with terbutaline, which helps open the airways to ease breathing. Together they relieve a congested chest and cough linked to colds, bronchitis and other chest conditions. The smooth syrup is a popular choice for adults and children (as advised) needing relief from a wet, mucus-laden cough.
Active ingredients (typical, per 10 ml): Bromhexine hydrochloride, Guaifenesin and Terbutaline sulphate.
Directions for Use
Shake the bottle well before use. Take using the measuring cup or spoon provided, at the dose appropriate for age as advised by your doctor or pharmacist. Commonly three times a day. It can be taken with or without water. Use for short-term relief of a chesty cough; if the cough lasts more than a few days, worsens, or comes with high fever or breathlessness, seek medical advice. Do not exceed the stated dose, and avoid taking with a dry-cough suppressant.
Do not combine with cough suppressants, which work against an expectorant. The terbutaline content may cause a faster heartbeat, tremor or restlessness, so use with caution if you have heart disease, high blood pressure, an overactive thyroid or diabetes. Use with caution in stomach ulcer. Tell your doctor about other medicines and if pregnant or breastfeeding before use. May cause mild stomach upset. Store below 30C, away from light.
