Overview
Glucomet 500mg Tablets contain metformin, the first-line medicine for type 2 diabetes, in a standard (immediate-release) tablet. Metformin lowers blood sugar mainly by reducing the amount of sugar the liver releases and helping the body use its own insulin more effectively, without causing low blood sugar on its own. Used alongside diet and exercise, it is a cornerstone of diabetes care and can also support modest weight control. The 500mg strength is a common starting dose, often increased gradually. A trusted, widely used, doctor-prescribed option helping people manage type 2 diabetes.
Active: Metformin hydrochloride 500mg per tablet.
Directions for Use
This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor. Usually with or just after meals to reduce stomach upset, swallowed whole with water. The dose is started low and increased gradually. Do not skip meals, and keep to your diet, exercise and blood-sugar monitoring plan. Attend regular reviews of blood sugar and kidney function, and do not stop without advice.
Stop and seek urgent care for vomiting, rapid breathing, severe weakness or marked muscle pain (rare lactic acidosis). Tell your doctor about kidney or liver problems, and pause metformin around surgery or scans using contrast dye, and during serious illness, vomiting or dehydration. On its own it rarely causes low blood sugar, but the risk rises with insulin or a sulfonylurea. Long-term use can lower vitamin B12. Avoid excess alcohol. Use in pregnancy or breastfeeding only on advice. Store below 30°C. This product information is for general guidance only and does not replace professional medical advice. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider before starting any new medication or supplement. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
