Glucomet XR 1000mg (metformin) is a prescription medicine for type 2 diabetes, in an extended-release form taken once daily. Metformin reduces the amount of glucose produced by the liver, lowers glucose absorbed from food and improves the body's response to insulin, helping to control blood sugar without causing weight gain or, on its own, low blood sugar. The extended-release formula is gentler on the stomach, helping adults manage type 2 diabetes alongside diet and exercise.

Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor. Glucomet XR 1000mg is usually taken once daily with the evening meal, swallowed whole with water. Do not crush or chew the extended-release tablet (an empty tablet shell may appear in the stool, which is normal and harmless). Do not change the dose or stop without medical advice, and keep up with regular blood sugar checks.

This is a prescription medicine. Tell your doctor about kidney or liver problems. Metformin is not suitable in significant kidney impairment. Stop and seek urgent care for signs of lactic acidosis (rare): rapid breathing, severe weakness, muscle pain or feeling very cold. Metformin should be paused around contrast-dye scans, surgery or serious illness. May cause stomach upset, especially at first; long-term use can lower vitamin B12. Limit alcohol.
