Overview
Kombiglyze XR 5/1000 Tablets from AstraZeneca combine saxagliptin 5mg, a DPP-4 inhibitor, with metformin 1000mg in an extended-release formulation, for adults with type 2 diabetes whose blood sugar is not adequately controlled on metformin alone. Saxagliptin boosts the body's own incretin hormones to increase insulin release after meals, while extended-release metformin reduces glucose production by the liver and improves insulin sensitivity. Two complementary actions in one convenient once-daily tablet. Kombiglyze XR simplifies treatment for people managing type 2 diabetes, supporting steadier sugar control with fewer daily tablets.
Saxagliptin 5mg and metformin hydrochloride 1000mg per extended-release tablet.
Directions for Use
This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Take one tablet once daily with the evening meal, swallowed whole with water. Do not crush, split or chew the extended-release tablet. You may occasionally notice a soft tablet shell in the stool; this is normal. Keep monitoring your blood sugar as advised and do not change the dose yourself.
Do not use in type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, severe kidney disease or conditions predisposing to lactic acidosis (dehydration, severe infection, heavy alcohol use, heart failure requiring treatment). Your doctor will check kidney function periodically and may pause the medicine before scans using contrast dye or before surgery. Report severe persistent joint pain or symptoms of pancreatitis (severe stomach pain radiating to the back) promptly. Combined use with insulin or sulfonylureas raises low-blood-sugar risk. Tell your doctor if pregnant or breastfeeding. Store below 30°C. This product information is for general guidance only and does not replace professional medical advice. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider before starting any new medication or supplement. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
