Treviamet 50/500 is a combination tablet for type 2 diabetes containing vildagliptin (a DPP-4 inhibitor) and metformin (a biguanide), at a lower metformin strength. It is a prescription medicine used to help control blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes when diet, exercise and a single medicine are not enough. Vildagliptin helps the body release more insulin when blood sugar is high and lowers the production of excess sugar, while metformin reduces the sugar made by the liver and helps the body use insulin better. Together they improve blood sugar control as part of a diabetes care plan.

Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. It is usually taken twice a day. One tablet with or just after a meal, commonly morning and evening. Swallowed whole with water. Taking it with food reduces the chance of stomach upset. Continue your recommended diet and exercise alongside it. Do not change the dose without medical advice.

Tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver problems, heart failure, or a history of pancreatitis, or if you drink a lot of alcohol. Metformin is usually paused around scans that use contrast dye, and during serious illness, dehydration or surgery. Ask your doctor. On its own this combination rarely causes low blood sugar, but the risk rises when combined with other diabetes medicines; learn the warning signs (shakiness, sweating, confusion). Seek urgent help for severe abdominal pain, or unusual muscle pain with breathing difficulty. Store below 30°C.
