Overview
Xalatan Eye Drops 2.5ml contain latanoprost, a prostaglandin analogue from Pfizer used to lower raised pressure inside the eye in open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension. Latanoprost works by increasing the natural outflow of fluid from the eye, helping protect the optic nerve from pressure-related damage that can lead to sight loss. Used once daily, Xalatan is one of the most widely prescribed glaucoma treatments worldwide and an important option for preserving vision in patients diagnosed with glaucoma. A leading cause of preventable blindness.
Latanoprost 50 micrograms/ml (0.005% w/v) eye drops solution. Contains benzalkonium chloride as preservative.
Directions for Use
This is a prescription medicine. Use only as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. The usual dose is one drop into the affected eye(s) once daily, preferably in the evening. Wash hands first; tilt your head back, pull down the lower eyelid and instil one drop without touching the eye with the bottle tip. Remove contact lenses before use and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting. If you use other eye drops, space them at least 5 minutes apart. Do not use more than once a day. More frequent use can reduce effectiveness.
May gradually and permanently darken eye colour (iris pigmentation), and can darken and lengthen eyelashes; redness or mild irritation may occur. Tell your doctor if you have eye inflammation, previous eye surgery, asthma or are pregnant or breastfeeding. Contains benzalkonium chloride, which can be absorbed by soft contact lenses. Store unopened bottles in a refrigerator (2-8°C); once opened, use within 4 weeks and keep below 25°C. Seek urgent advice if you develop eye pain or sudden vision changes.
