Overview

Nexium 20mg Tablets contain esomeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that reduces the amount of acid the stomach produces. By lowering stomach acid, it relieves heartburn and acid reflux, helps heal acid-related damage to the food pipe (oesophagitis), and treats and helps prevent stomach and duodenal ulcers. It is also used alongside antibiotics to clear H. pylori infection and to protect the stomach in people taking long-term anti-inflammatory painkillers. Nexium 20mg is for adults with troublesome acid reflux, heartburn or ulcers, offering lasting relief from acid-related symptoms under medical guidance.

Active ingredient: Esomeprazole (as magnesium) 20 mg per tablet.

Directions for Use

This medicine is usually taken once a day. Swallow the tablet whole with water, ideally in the morning at least one hour before food for best effect; do not chew or crush it (if swallowing is hard, it may be dispersed in water as directed). Take it for the full course your doctor recommends, even once symptoms improve. For occasional reflux it is used short term; for ulcers or oesophagitis a longer course may be advised. Do not increase the dose without medical advice.

Tell your doctor if you have difficulty or pain swallowing, unintended weight loss, vomiting blood or black stools, as these need investigation before treatment. Long-term use may slightly affect magnesium and vitamin B12 levels and bone strength, so prolonged use should be reviewed. Mention other medicines, as esomeprazole can interact with some (e.g. clopidogrel, certain HIV and antifungal drugs). Possible effects include headache, diarrhoea or constipation.
