Overview

Picolax Powder (2 sachets) is a bowel-cleansing preparation used to empty the bowel before a colonoscopy, X-ray or surgery, so the doctor can see the bowel clearly. It contains sodium picosulfate with magnesium citrate, which work together to stimulate the bowel and draw water into it, producing a thorough clear-out. It is used only for short-term bowel preparation, exactly as instructed before your procedure. A medically directed bowel-prep option used by patients ahead of bowel investigations or surgery. Actives per sachet: Sodium picosulfate 10mg with magnesium oxide and citric acid (forming magnesium citrate). Confirm on the pack.

Directions for Use

Use strictly according to your hospital's instructions and the pack leaflet, as the timing around your procedure matters. In general, each sachet is dissolved in water and drunk at the times advised, followed by plenty of clear fluids to stay hydrated and complete the cleanse. Follow any dietary instructions (such as a light or clear-fluid diet) given before your procedure. Stay near a toilet once it starts working.

Drink plenty of clear fluids to avoid dehydration. Not suitable if you have a bowel blockage, severe inflammatory bowel disease, certain heart or kidney conditions, or are severely dehydrated. Tell your doctor your full medical history first. Tell your doctor about all medicines, as bowel cleansing can affect how they are absorbed (including the contraceptive pill).
