Overview

Diltigesic Organogel 2% (30g) contains diltiazem, a calcium-channel blocker formulated as a topical gel for the management of anal fissures. Painful tears in the lining of the back passage that cause sharp pain and bleeding on passing stool. Applied locally, diltiazem relaxes the internal anal sphincter muscle and improves blood flow, relieving the spasm and allowing the fissure to heal naturally. Often avoiding the need for surgery. Prescribed discreetly , Diltigesic offers an effective, well-tolerated alternative to nitrate ointments, with less headache as a side effect.

Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Use only as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Wash hands, then apply a small amount (about the size of a pea, or as directed) to the anal area using a fingertip. Typically twice daily for 6-8 weeks. Wash hands thoroughly after each application. Continue for the full prescribed course even as pain improves, and combine with a high-fibre diet, plenty of fluids and stool softeners if advised to keep stools soft.

For external/local use only. Do not swallow. May cause local itching, mild irritation or headache; dizziness is possible if significant amounts are absorbed. Report persistent effects to your doctor. Tell your doctor if you take oral blood pressure or heart medicines (especially other calcium-channel blockers or beta-blockers), or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Rectal bleeding should always be assessed by a doctor to confirm the diagnosis. Store below 25°C.
