Overview

Augmentin ES Syrup 100ml is GSK's extra-strength paediatric formulation of the trusted amoxicillin + clavulanate combination, designed for children's infections that need higher amoxicillin doses. Such as stubborn middle-ear infections, sinusitis and chest infections, including those caused by less-susceptible pneumococci. Amoxicillin kills the bacteria while clavulanate disarms the enzymes resistant bacteria use to destroy amoxicillin, restoring its power. A specialist paediatric antibiotic kept for infections where standard-strength syrup is not enough, used under a doctor's direction .

Amoxicillin (as trihydrate) with clavulanic acid (as potassium clavulanate) high-strength paediatric suspension. Confirm per-5ml strengths on product packaging. Contains aspartame.

Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Use only as directed by your doctor. Dosing is calculated by the child's weight and given every 12 hours, usually for 7-10 days. Add the stated volume of cooled boiled water to the powder, shake well, and shake before every dose. Measure with the syringe or cup provided and give at the start of a meal to reduce stomach upset. Complete the full course. Store the mixed suspension in the refrigerator and discard after the period stated on the label.

Do not use with penicillin allergy or a history of liver problems with amoxicillin-clavulanate. Seek urgent care for rash, facial swelling or breathing difficulty. Diarrhoea is common; persistent watery diarrhoea needs review. Caution with kidney impairment and with glandular fever (rash risk). Tell the doctor about all medicines, including warfarin and methotrexate. Confirm the exact strength and dosing on the prescription label.
