Overview

Avelox 400mg Tablets (10 pack) contain moxifloxacin, Bayer's once-daily respiratory fluoroquinolone antibiotic. It is prescribed for community-acquired pneumonia, acute bacterial sinusitis and flare-ups of chronic bronchitis where first-line antibiotics are unsuitable or have failed, and for certain skin and soft-tissue infections. Moxifloxacin's strength against the stubborn bacteria behind chest infections, with simple once-daily dosing and no food restrictions, makes it a valuable reserve antibiotic. Used judiciously under prescription to protect its effectiveness for patients.

Moxifloxacin (as hydrochloride) 400mg per film-coated tablet. Contains lactose.

Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor. Usually one 400mg tablet once daily for 5-10 days depending on the infection. Swallow whole with water, with or without food, at the same time each day. Take at least 4 hours before or 8 hours after antacids, iron or zinc products. Complete the full course even when you feel better.

Avoid with known heart rhythm problems (QT prolongation), uncorrected low potassium, or with other QT-prolonging medicines. Moxifloxacin affects heart rhythm. Stop and seek urgent care for palpitations, fainting, tendon pain or swelling, seizures, or tingling and weakness. Not for children, pregnancy or breastfeeding. Avoid strong sunlight; caution with epilepsy, diabetes and liver disease. May cause dizziness. Assess before driving. Store below 30°C.
