Overview

Bactiflox 500mg Lactab is an antibiotic containing ciprofloxacin 500mg, a fluoroquinolone used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections. It is commonly prescribed for urinary tract infections (UTIs), respiratory and chest infections, gastrointestinal infections including typhoid, skin and soft-tissue infections, and certain sexually transmitted infections. Ciprofloxacin works by stopping bacteria from multiplying. Bactiflox is for adults whose doctor has confirmed a bacterial infection that responds to ciprofloxacin; it does not work against viral illnesses such as colds or flu.

Active ingredient: Ciprofloxacin (as hydrochloride) 500mg per tablet.

Directions for Use

This medicine requires a prescription. Use only as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Bactiflox is usually taken twice a day, swallowed whole with a glass of water, with or without food. Space doses about 12 hours apart and complete the full course even if you feel better, to stop the infection returning. Avoid taking it at the same time as dairy products, antacids, or iron/zinc supplements, which reduce absorption. Separate these by at least 2 hours. Drink plenty of fluids during treatment.

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a history of tendon problems, epilepsy, kidney disease or an irregular heartbeat. Ciprofloxacin can rarely cause tendon pain or swelling. Stop and seek advice if this occurs. It may cause dizziness and increase sensitivity to sunlight, so use sun protection. Not for children or adolescents unless specifically prescribed.
