Clarie DS Suspension 250mg/5ml (50ml) is a double-strength clarithromycin suspension for children's bacterial infections. Clarithromycin, a modern macrolide antibiotic, treats chest infections, throat and tonsil infections, middle-ear infections and some skin infections, and is a valuable option for children allergic to penicillin. The DS (double strength) concentration means smaller volumes per dose for older or heavier children. A practical paediatric antibiotic prescribed widely , dosed by the child's weight.

Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Use only as directed by your doctor. Clarithromycin is usually dosed at 7.5mg/kg twice daily for 5-7 days. Shake the reconstituted suspension well and measure with the spoon or syringe provided. May be given with or without food; food reduces stomach upset. Complete the full course even when the child improves. Use the suspension within the period stated on the label after reconstitution.

Do not use with known macrolide allergy, or alongside certain medicines. Clarithromycin interacts significantly (statins, some antihistamines, theophylline, carbamazepine and others); tell the doctor everything the child takes. Caution with heart rhythm disorders and liver or kidney impairment. Diarrhoea, taste changes and stomach upset can occur; persistent watery diarrhoea needs review. Use in pregnancy only if clearly needed. Store the dry powder below 30°C; follow label storage after mixing.
