Overview

Cosatrim DS 960mg Tablets contain co-trimoxazole, a combination antibiotic of sulfamethoxazole 800mg and trimethoprim 160mg ('DS' = double strength). The two work together to block the bacteria's ability to make folate, stopping them multiplying. Co-trimoxazole treats a range of infections. Including urinary tract infections, certain chest infections, ear and sinus infections, and some gut infections, and is especially important for preventing and treating a particular pneumonia (PCP) in people with weakened immunity, including those living with HIV. A trusted, doctor-prescribed antibiotic widely used across Kenya.

Actives: Sulfamethoxazole 800mg and Trimethoprim 160mg per tablet (co-trimoxazole, double strength).

Directions for Use

This is a prescription medicine. Take only as directed by your doctor. Commonly one tablet twice daily for a treatment course, or as a regular preventive dose where prescribed, swallowed with a full glass of water, with or after food. Drink plenty of fluids during treatment. Take it at evenly spaced times and complete the full course even if you feel better, to clear the infection and help prevent resistance.

Tell your doctor about any allergy to 'sulfa' antibiotics before use. Seek urgent care for any skin rash, especially with fever, blistering or mouth sores. Rare but serious skin and blood reactions can occur. Drink plenty of fluids. Tell your doctor about kidney or liver problems, folate deficiency, or if you take warfarin, methotrexate or certain diabetes or potassium-raising medicines. Avoid in late pregnancy and in young infants. Use in pregnancy or breastfeeding only on medical advice. Store below 25°C.
