Overview

Gramocef-O 400mg Capsules contain cefixime, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic, in a higher adult strength. They are used to treat a range of bacterial infections, including urinary tract infections (UTIs), respiratory and chest infections, ear, nose and throat infections, typhoid fever and certain sexually transmitted infections such as gonorrhoea. Cefixime works by killing the bacteria responsible for the infection. Gramocef-O is prescribed for adults whose doctor has confirmed a bacterial infection that responds to cefixime; it has no effect on viral illnesses such as colds and flu.

Active ingredient: Cefixime 400 mg per capsule.

Directions for Use

This medicine requires a prescription. Use only as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. The capsule is usually taken once daily (or as two divided doses) with water, with or without food. Taking it with food can ease stomach upset. Swallow it whole. Complete the full course exactly as prescribed, even if you feel better after a few days, to fully clear the infection and reduce the risk of resistance.

Tell your doctor if you are allergic to cefixime, other cephalosporins or penicillins, or have kidney problems or bowel disease. May cause diarrhoea; seek advice if it becomes severe, watery or bloody. Stop and seek urgent help for a rash, swelling or breathing difficulty. Cefixime may reduce the reliability of the contraceptive pill. Use extra precautions. Tell your doctor if pregnant or breastfeeding, and mention other medicines. Store below 30C in a dry place.
